Southern Illinois (KMDH)

Southern Illinois Airport serves Carbondale and Murphysboro with three intersecting runways and one conspicuously busy training pattern. The 6,506-foot 18L/36R is the instrument primary; two shorter strips carry light-aircraft work.

You work Southern Tower with Kansas City Center overhead. The board is almost entirely N-number GA, with ExecJet and FlexJet business traffic mixed into persistent student pattern work. South flow uses 18L and north flow reverses to 36R; the two shorter strips remain visual options outside the normal flows. The cycle carries four generated approaches and no arrivals or departure procedures, so every IFR departure leaves on radar vectors.

This is the Steady tier: modest IFR volume, but high pattern activity and three intersecting runways make attention management the real workload.
