Amarillo · Field elevation 3,607 ft · 2 runways · Northeast Flow and Southwest Flow
Rick Husband Amarillo International serves the Texas Panhandle with a 13,502-foot precision runway and a crossing 7,901-foot runway in Class C airspace.
You work Amarillo Approach and the local-control sequence. American links Dallas / Fort Worth; Southwest links Dallas Love, Las Vegas, Denver and Austin; United links Denver and Houston. Northeast flow uses runway 4 and southwest flow uses runway 22. Those reciprocal flows are gameplay modeling, not a published runway-use plan. The current FAA cycle carries six approaches but no STAR or SID, so IFR departures leave on radar vectors. The overnight transfer of approach service to Albuquerque Center is outside this shift model.
This is the Busy tier: mixed regional jets, 737s and general aviation share radar airspace over two crossing runway axes. Carrier weights and traffic cadence are our modeling, not observed flight counts.
